The Industrial Electronics Division of Hilger u. Kern GmbH (Germany) has taken great care to specialize in products that constitute useful supplements to drive systems with three-phase induction motors: softstarters and brake units. They cover a wide range of supply voltages and motor power ratings. The purpose of brake units is to brake asynchronous motors quickly and reliably, without using a mechanical brake which can have some disadvantages: noise, brake lining dust, volume. These units are therefore useful in food machine applications, because they do not pollute, and wherever drives need to be braked quickly in order to ensure operational safety (e.g. circular saws) or to save time (e.g. machine tools, vibrating screens). Electronic brake units eliminate mechanical wear and do not require maintenance. They can also be installed on systems which are already in operation without having to adapt the motor.
